Bordered on one side by the River Cole and another
by the Grand Union Canal, Latch&Batchelor's Hay Mills site is
recognisable from the 1856 picture. Church, schoolroom and cottages
still form an integral part of the sixteen acre complex.
TC Batchelor's inventions for both locked coil
and flattened strand ropes, principally for mining, gave the company
a worldwide reputation for rope-making expertise, and service with
the emphasis on quality and safety. This is still enjoyed today
with exports to over fifty different countries.
Historically, rigorous inspection and testing
of mining ropes were the catalysts for many international standards
and safety laws. As a principal supplier L&B adopted these practices
over one hundred years ago, so have no difficulty with modern quality
systems. Moreover, L&B is approved to ISO 9002, Rolls Royce,
MoD and many others.
